Interview with a Catholic Exorcist: A Journey into the Realities of Spiritual Warfare

Sophia (Interviewer):
For weeks, I worked tirelessly to track down a Catholic priest who specializes in exorcism. As someone who studies the occult, I felt a responsibility to warn people—especially those on social media—about the dangers of dabbling with dark forces. So many young people are experimenting with the occult without understanding the profound consequences, and I felt compelled to share the truth. After several weeks of searching, I finally found a priest willing to speak with me. We arranged to meet via Teams, and I'm incredibly grateful to him for sharing his experiences and insights.

Father, thank you for agreeing to this interview. To start, could you tell me about your journey into becoming an exorcist? How did you prepare for this demanding role?
The Path to Becoming an Exorcist

Exorcist:
The road to becoming an exorcist is long and filled with deep spiritual preparation. I began my studies in the seminary, where I focused on theology, sacred scripture, and most importantly, understanding the battle between good and evil. But becoming an exorcist isn’t just about studying—it’s about living your faith in a way that prepares you for encounters with evil forces.

After completing my seminary training, I was selected for further specialized training under an experienced exorcist. I worked alongside him for several years, learning the rituals, prayers, and spiritual strategies involved in confronting demonic forces. This is not something you can rush into. It requires years of personal spiritual growth, humility, and a willingness to be a vessel for God’s power.

Sophia (Interviewer):
That’s an incredible commitment. How long did it take before you were fully equipped to perform exorcisms on your own?

Exorcist:
It took more than ten years to be fully prepared, and even now, after many years of experience, I continue to learn. The Church doesn’t appoint exorcists lightly. It’s a role that demands deep devotion, prayer, and spiritual maturity. I rely on God’s strength, not my own, and I understand that this work is never truly finished. Every case, every exorcism is a new challenge.
Recognizing Demonic Possession

Sophia (Interviewer):
How do you determine that a person is truly possessed and not dealing with a medical or psychological issue?

Exorcist:
The first step is always to rule out any medical or psychological conditions. Possession is a last resort, and we have to make sure that we’re not misdiagnosing someone who is dealing with a mental illness or physical condition. Once we’ve ruled that out, we observe the person closely for signs of possession. This can include unnatural strength, extreme aversion to sacred objects like crucifixes or holy water, or sudden personality changes.

We also consider the individual’s history—whether they’ve engaged with the occult or participated in any rituals that could open the door to demonic forces. Only after exhausting all other explanations do we proceed with the exorcism.
Confronting the Darkness: Stories from the Front Lines

Sophia (Interviewer):
You’ve worked on some truly intense and frightening cases. Can you share any of the most disturbing or extreme experiences you’ve had?

Exorcist:
(Sighs) Yes, some cases are deeply unsettling. One of the most memorable involved a young woman who had been involved with the occult for many years. She had used dark magic, visited occult practitioners, and even performed rituals in an attempt to control her life. The demon that had attached itself to her was incredibly powerful. During the exorcism, she displayed extraordinary strength. It took two grown men to restrain her as she thrashed and screamed. Her body twisted in ways that were unnerving, and her voice became a deep, guttural tone that was unrecognizable.

Another case that stands out was a man who had been practicing satanic rituals for years. He had invited demons into his life through blood sacrifices and dark ceremonies. When he came to us, he had already lost all sense of himself. His eyes were vacant, and he had no recognition of who he was. During the exorcism, he levitated off the ground and spoke in ancient languages. It was both terrifying and heartbreaking to witness.

These are the kinds of cases where the evil we confront is undeniable. It’s not just the physical manifestations like levitation or unnatural strength—what makes it truly terrifying is the complete loss of the person’s humanity. The demon is trying to consume their soul.
The Truth Behind the Movies: What’s Real and What’s Fiction in Exorcisms

Sophia (Interviewer):
Many people have seen exorcisms in movies, and they’re often portrayed with extreme manifestations like levitation, unnatural contortions, and deep voices. Is that what exorcisms are really like?

Exorcist:
In movies, exorcisms are often exaggerated to make them more dramatic. While levitation and physical manifestations can sometimes happen, it’s important to remember that real exorcisms are much more subdued. The true nature of an exorcism is the spiritual battle that’s happening beneath the surface.

Levitation, for example, is rare. When it does occur, it’s a powerful sign of the demon’s resistance, but it’s not as dramatic as you might see in films. What’s truly terrifying isn’t the physical display—it’s the presence of evil and the soul’s struggle to break free. Movies tend to focus on the shock value, but in real life, an exorcism is about prayer, perseverance, and faith.
The Role of Angels and Divine Protection

Sophia (Interviewer):
I’ve read that angels play a crucial role in the process of exorcism. How do they assist during these intense spiritual battles?

Exorcist:
Angels are vital to the work of exorcism. In particular, we often call upon Archangel Michael, the leader of Heaven’s army. He is a warrior who fights against the forces of darkness. When we face powerful demons, we know that Michael and other angels are with us, providing guidance and protection.

During an exorcism, angels offer more than just physical assistance—they bring spiritual strength. They help protect both the exorcist and the person being exorcised, offering comfort and divine support. Without the angels, we would be defenseless against the darkness.

The reality is that the angels are far more powerful than any demon. They work in tandem with God’s will to bring peace and healing to those who have been affected by dark forces.
God’s Power vs. Demonic Forces

Sophia (Interviewer):
It seems like angels have immeasurable power. Would you agree that they are more powerful than demons?

Exorcist:
Yes, absolutely. Demons are powerful, but they are nothing compared to the power of God and His angels. While demons may try to create fear and confusion, the angels bring peace, clarity, and strength. The battle is not between angels and demons—it’s between good and evil, with God’s power being the ultimate force.

The demons may appear to be strong, but their power is limited. God’s grace is infinite. The angels are always on our side, ready to protect and fight for us. And in the end, it is God who wins the battle. His light always conquers darkness.
Final Advice: Don’t Open the Door to the Dark Side

Sophia (Interviewer):
For anyone who is curious or tempted by the occult, or for those struggling with spiritual darkness, what advice would you offer?

Exorcist:
My advice is clear: stay away from the occult. It may seem alluring, but it is a path that leads only to destruction. The occult promises power and control, but it ultimately destroys the soul. If you find yourself struggling, turn to God. Turn to prayer, and seek the guidance of a priest or a counselor. There is always hope, and no matter how far down the wrong path you’ve gone, you can always turn back to God.

Remember, the most powerful weapon against the darkness is faith in God. Exorcism is a testament to His power and love, and no matter how strong the demon may seem, God’s love is always stronger. If you ever need help, don’t hesitate to reach out to the Church. We are here to help you.

Sophia (Interviewer):
Father, thank you so much for sharing your experiences and insights with us. This conversation has shed light on the realities of exorcism and the profound spiritual battles that occur. I hope it helps others to understand the true power of faith and the dangers of dabbling in the dark side.

Exorcist:
